April 2015: Drivers in some regions are currently having to wait longer than normal before being able to sit a restricted or full practical driver test. The Transport Agency apologises for any inconvenience or additional stress this is causing.
We are working very closely with the testing provider to increase the number of tests that are available - including having testing officers work overtime and moving testing officers to areas with higher demand.
We recommend that you book the first available test at your preferred test site as shown in the booking system. If you need a test sooner than what is available, check this website regularly as tests do become available due to cancellations.
Before you start you will need:
You can book, view, change or cancel a test.
Tests you can book online are:
restricted tests (car and motorcycle)
full tests (car, motorcycle and heavy vehicles). Older driver tests (for drivers aged 80, 82, 84 etc.)
Tests you can't book online are:
tests for P,V,I or O endorsements
overseas driver licence conversions
learner licence tests
You will need to go to the Transport Agency driver licensing agent to book these tests.
What do I need to know for my test?
Rebooking a test
If you have already taken a practical driver licence test and did not pass, please allow 24 hours before making another booking. This will ensure that the results of your previous test have been processed. When rebooking only the test fee is charged.
Cancelling or changing a test
Another test fee is payable if you change or cancel your test appointment within two working days of the test date. (The two working day period excludes weekends, public holidays, the day of the test and the day you make the change). Until then you can change or cancel most tests online for free here.
Alternatively you can change or reschedule at a driver licensing agent or by calling us on 0800 822 422, Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm, however a rescheduling fee of $16.40 will apply.
